Avast Free Antivirus reviews 26Write a Review
Excellent protection in stylish design.
Most of all, I like her dark contemporary theme. Combined with the purple and green colors, it looks wonderful. This is outside, but what is inside? There is a password manager that I use from day one. Now I don't need to remember the mountains of passwords and logins. I remember one, but strong.
Avast Antivirus has one more cool feature “Wi-Fi Inspector”. This has revealed many vulnerabilities in my home network and fixed them. I always thought I was protected... It has opened my eyes. Now my local network is secure as Pentagon :)
- Wi-Fi Inspector
- Password manager
- Annoying offers to buy the full version.
A complete waste
They took two payments for the Avast cleanup program, they refunded one payment but in doing so they also cancelled my account so after numerous emails trying to explain I'm still waiting for for the second payment to be refunded, they say it's been refunded nowhere to be seen on my credit card statements, if anyone qualified from Avast customer service can investigate that would be ok but do not ask me to send anymore emails. I'm done with Avast.
- Many useful
- security-related bonus features
- Can't refund my payment
Avast is one of the most flexible and attractive security tools in the market
The free version is good. You don`t need to pay at all. Avast antivirus free download link from this website led me to their promo page. I didn`t pay. I just downloaded the demo. Virus scanner works. I think that the program needs some tweaking. I`ve read the comments and think that people just have super powerful rigs. My machine struggled with the software. It slowed down.
- Silent mode feature to hide alerts
- Shows ads within the program
Avast Antivirus is a great solution - as long as the price you`re paying is "free"
I've used free avast for 11 years now with windows defender OFF. Its just outright better and I trust avast to keep me safe. On numerous occasions (where i was fishing) windows defender was caught red handed, allowed me to download some suspect program, and then it caught a virus. avast on the other hand, let the program proceed, and then disabled the virus, of course the program was obviously a virus in every way and there was nothing to execute but a virus, windows defender lets downloadable viruses run rampant, avast actively stops them. I have nothing but praise and nice things to say about avast, it works, plain and simple
- Strong performance
- No commercial use
Good antivirus software
The Free version of avast is great. AvastPro has many issues. . I had the free avast versions for years, and since I was a long time customer got an offer for a free update to pro. Once I had a AvastPro I contracted a terrible virus, and had to change all my social media and bank account passwords. I was never able to use that computer again. Flash forward a year later and I found out I was automatically charged for a subscription renewal that I did not sign for. I called and I was able to cancel the subscription to Pro, but not allowed a refund for a whole year. I had to call and email these people for weeks, before they would refund my money. Their customer service is horrible and Pro is just a scam to take people money. Don't pay for it!
- Free version is more than good enough
- Nagging you until you upgrade
Avast remains as best choice for me for free antivirus
I have used Avast over the last 5 years or so including the IP masking software. I disliked the IP proxy software as it would not work with certain websites I elected to frequent, and I don't feel Avast has the right to determine what sites I do or do not frequent. Other than this, I know their antivirus software is very robust and easy to work with, so I pay for multiple machine coverage. Great product.
- Password manager
- Some bonus features require separate purchase
Best Protection for you
Avast has always been the best antivirus on the planet and has prevented me from ever having a virus through any of my computers beginning with my Windows 95 operating system. My only complaint is that now everything is sold separately and as an add-on and it can get quite costly and if not purchased can get quite annoying as a pop up advertisement. But then again I think that everything has been overly commercialized with "in app purchases" these days...hasn't it?
- Nice detection rates
I have nothing to say other than that it is a good antivirus
Avast is a good freeware, The free version is well for most people, itoccupied a little m computer memory, scanning speed is good, the free version has enought protection function for your computer: it can protect your file system, internet browsing, email, network and P2P files, usb drive, etc. and can silently upgrade in background , the paid version has advance feature just for the professional user, such as parental control, firewall, etc. The anti-virus ability of the free version is the same as the full version.
- On-access protection from viruses and other malware
- No automatic scanning of new drives connected to a PC
Avast is good antivirus and I have checked it by myself.
Avast is good antivirus, I have checked it by myself. I downloaded some archives with different viruses and here is the result: Kasperskiy found 53%; Doctor Veb - 41%; Avira - 60%; Avast - 60% (BUT ITS FREE!!!); Norton - 58%; Panda - 79% (I was surprised, but anyway this av is bad).
- Recognizes viruses very good as for free version
Avast helped to remove a virus module
I`m not going to say something bad about developers, or PR them. I just want to tell how the free antivirus Avast helped to delete the Mail.ru virus module which caused irrevocably changing search engine from Google to Mail.ru in Chrome Browser. I researched whole internet for solving this problem. I deleted Chrome and reinstalled it again - didn`t help. Before Avast I had nod beta version for month. It searched and blocked all virus trash but didn`t solve the problem. I tried 360 program - no result. I installed Avast and this Mail.ru virus module is GONE. Who has this problem, now you know what to do!
- Helps to delete a virus modules
Experienced users will appreciate its lengthy feature list
It is OK as free stuff but if you are going to get the upgraded version as I did, the upgrades you can get from Avast appear to be never ending. When you buy an anti-virus software from other sources like Trend Micro that's it... you get everything within one package with no further offers. I get Avast's two upgrades at reduced offer price and still there are options that are not included. I will not be renewing my subscription next year. Too many features available only for paid version and too many requests to upgrade. The free version is not for me but it might be for you!
- Password manager
- network scanner
- hardened browser
- Fairly heavy impact on system performance
A powerful antivirus which offers solid all-round protection
One thing I really don't like about the latest Avast software is that it will occasionally present information on a pop-up page that says 14 or 15 or 20 programs are behaving poorly and your machine is running badly and some other things need to be fixed. It doesn't ever say what those things are nor does it present an opportunity for me to review the list of suspect programs or processes that they say are behaving badly, or... what exactly they are doing and what exactly is this bad behavior. They just offer a button claiming to "fix it". I've had programs like that in the past that say, "We will fix your PC for you..." They fixed it alright, I ended up having to reinstall everything.
- No-strings free
- Uses many tricks to try to sell other Avast products
Avast Free Antivirus includes fully functional antivirus, antispyware, and heuristics engines
I was facing the Issue of computer lag but had already trusted Windows Defender to works well. So, I spent money to update all the drivers which did not solve the problem. Finally, I bought Avast Ultimate which has been protecting my computer both online and offline. The lag issue is completely fixed after a full computer scan. Many Thank You to Avast.
- Easy installation
- Tries to install unrelated software
Free, fast, verbose, but daily ads to buy or rate the product
Used this for years because it was free and fast on Win9x, so I might be more experienced than most users. They have thrown in a lot of annoying ads for their own product, those kind where you have to read the screen to not buy an upgrade. So no different than McAfee or the other guys, Avast will lock up the PC for a small time (not as bad as McAfee) when launching new programs that it hasn't seen before, sometimes it tells you it's doing it, sometimes it says it won't run it unless you click something, sometimes it offers to upload a sample to HQ. The screens are OK for me, it's the price you pay (I have paid some years, usually when I'm cleaning up a friend's PC I make them buy a year to start), and if you can afford $19/yr or whatever some of the costs are please support these guys since they offer a free version.
- Highly customizable
- Middling malware protection
I believe it`s the best antivirus today
I have free Avast version for 7 years or more. I haven`t any problems: it catches viruses and scans internet traffic. Time to time I`m checking Dr.Web curelt and everything is clear always. It doesn`t overstrain the system even when scanning on run. I think it`s the best antivirus today. Only juniors could have problems because it is important to set it up right.
- It catches viruses and scans internet traffic
- It doesn`t overstrain the system
Avast Free Antivirus offers antivirus protection that earns good scores at work
Since 2005 I have utilised Avast antivirus free version and later paid, and despite being free, it has protected my computer from virus, malware and recently stopped countless of ransomware attacks that have been going haywire on the Internet line in my area. Reading countless of the negative reviews of this program I can without a doubt say these people have no idea what they are doing, it surprises me they even know how to turn a computer on.
- Network security inspector
- Password manager features limited
Avast is the best antivirus I have ever installed
This is the best PC antivirus I have ever installed. I purchased the Avast premier version few months ago. It is very silent antivirus as it works in the background without disturbing the user. I even tested its real time security by downloading a fake virus and it immediately identified it and terminated the virus from my computer. The user interface of this antivirus is friendly. The ram consumption of this antivirus is also very low so it does not affect PC speed, while its working. The main issue of this antivirus is just the cost and nothing else. It is very expensive to buy, but at the same time it is worth its cost.
- Friendly user interface
- Low ram consumption
- Isn't disturbing the user
Good protection and Light on system resources, but...
As far as protection goes, Avast does a fine job without bogging down your system. I give it high marks for those two things. What is a bit annoying is that it is constantly putting up "scare notices" about all sorts of things (everyone can see what you do online, you don't have a firewall, the snow is melting in the arctic, an asteroid will crash into your browser, the air in your room is toxic, etc etc etc) to try and get you to subscribe to the paid version of the software. I understand that they need to monetize their product (businesses definitely should pay for the product). I really do... But perhaps tone down the frequency the scare notices a tad? I still do recommend Avast, and regularly install it on client's computers when I see they have no protection.
- Loads of features
- Annoying pop-ups
It's great to get things free
They suck you in with free trial, only to keep renewing your subscription well before renew date without notification. Once renewed you then have to try and get a refund from another entity. You should be warned prior to automatically renewing so you can opt out prior to renewal and therefore not have to fight to get refund. Check other reviewers to see their responses. If you do happen to have a problem you then have to pay extra to get it resolved. Not Happy!!! Please do your research before subscribing.
- Automatic renewal
They seem good then they start with the extras to cover this and that, all the time they want more money
Not only has the program not helped me at all, it has even caused me inconvenience. It analyzes the "viruses" and junk files on your computer, but the program doesn`t let you delete the junk files or eliminate the viruses without buying the paid version. It won`t let you open some files since the program detects them as a "virus." It constantly advertises the paid version, which it is very annoying because it does not let you do anything without closing the messages.
- Real time protection against malware
- Constantly advertises the paid version
Good antivirus, but has some cons
I was using Avast, It is good, actually. But it has following cons that should be rectified: 1. Malware could be updated to the current malware trends. 2. Unnecessary op up ads. 3. Lack of antiransomeware, antispyware protection 4. Lack of improvements in cloud software
- Malware could be updated to the current malware trends; Unnecessary op up ads; Lack of antiransomeware, antispyware protection; Lack of improvements in cloud software.
It works plain and simple
Avast has also lots of other features, it can also protect your privacy in the computer, and clean the junk files to speed up the computer, and also the firewall feature. My favorite feature is its false website detection module, it can help you to avoid being deceived. And it can save and encrypt your login password. Another useful function is make boot CD or USB key, then if your computer are infected with virus and can not start, you can use this boot CD or USB key to start the computer and Killing the virus.
- Mobile security feature
- The boot scanning is too slow
Good for a free product
It is a good software package as it works great. The only problem is that it keeps asking you if you want to update to a better version that you must pay for. I think that it is a good antivirus software to protect your computer. You might want to remove any other antivirus software that you may have on your computer but it will keep asking you if you want to remove it.
- Gaming mode
- Possible privacy concerns
Trustworthy free antivirus product
Eats more than half of my pc resources, and almost always runs the "energency update" even if everything is up to date, so my comp is totally blocked, all resources taken by this program that can not be stopped, and I have to wait an average 30/40min for it to calm down before I can use my comp. Sure it protects, if nothing else can run...
- Decent feature set
- So heavy!
Avast killed my computer
I have brought a used PC and I used it for a while without an antivirus software. Then I bought Avast and after installation my computer started lagging. Before installation my computer was very smooth and superfast. Avast window showed that there are few malwares and they are solved after first scanning. But then my PC performance slow downed. When I used Internet Explorer my computer hanged. After few days my computer stopped working. It hangs at Windows logo at the time of booting. It`s totally a waste product.
Avast is pretty good if you want to have basic protection
Actually, I should say that no other AV even compare, except Panda. Not only Avast is efficient, it has also great graphics and several interesting options like decide your own warning sounds. And most of all, it remains stable and can cope with almost any software. Something that a lot of people don't understand is that when their computer starts acting weird, it's very often linked to the antivirus they install, because a lot of AV software take way too much control and/or use too much resources, so i am very happy!
- Premium versions are affordable
- No firewall in the free package
