Paragon Backup & Recovery is full of bugs. And it seems that the developer is not in a hurry to eliminate them. More often than others, there is a problem when trying to restore a file in Windows 10. During the recovery process, the user receives an error message, and the recovery fails. Of course, you can mount the backup image as a virtual hard disk and copy the file from there, but first you need to find the file, and you need to know which incremental version of the backup to mount. If you try to use the "Backup and Restore" integrated part of the "restore" to restore the file, it will fail. When you create a backup task for a specific file or directory and then try to edit the files that should be included, Paragon resets the file selection. I contacted the developer and wrote them about all these problems. It seems that Paragon still hasn't got a hand in solving these problems. The latest released patches still did not solve these problems. And even the fact that the program is free is not a consolation for me.
The uniqueness of the free version of Paragon Backup & Recovery is that it performs backups using virtual hard disks as a container format (own pVHDs from Paragon, VMware or VHD / VHDX, supported by most Windows versions). The advantage of virtual hard disks is that they provide the ability to extract files from the VHD from any PC, not just from the computer where the Backup & Recovery application is installed. And the VHD files will be mounted by Windows itself. The program allows you to sign on a virtual hard disk. The user has access to basic image processing capabilities: creating an image of the entire system, entire disks, partitions, or sets of selected files. The file transfer utility supports direct recording to optical discs for archiving. Using Backup & Recovery is easy. In many ways, this contributes to a convenient, well-organized interface. With it, it is easy to create a backup task. The user can choose such variables as size in the menu, to divide the archive, compression level, password, and much more. Unfortunately, these functions are not available to the user for VMware and Windows virtual hard disks, only in their own Paragon format. Program performance is average. Not as fast as Acronis True Image, but not particularly slow. The process of backup and recovery itself slightly loads the processor, so it does not slow down the system.
A few words about the free version of Backup & Recovery, recently released by Paragon. In general, the free version can be described as successful. The program is relatively easy to use and includes three predefined backup options. The user can select the target location for the backup: in local folders, external drives or network drives. Also available options for creating, renaming and deleting folders.
Paragon Backup & Recovery creates backup copies in a virtual file on the hard disk. Not good if your hard drive fails. The program will of course create backup copies of Windows. In the case of a Windows crash, consider yourself out of luck. In that case, why do you need backup copies that you cannot use to restore your PC? After all, the program does not copy to another hard disk, it must be on the same hard disk as Windows.

Probably the main thing that upsets in the free version of this program is that with such a large number of functions that the user can see, he cannot use them. Personally, it gives me a feeling of limited space. Another controversial question that interests many - this program for a beginner or an experienced user? The program is quite easy to use, and the wizards provide many step-by-step instructions if they are necessary for the user. Therefore, it should not cause difficulties for novice users, it will be really convenient to use it. Conversely, excessive guardianship by wizards may slightly disappoint more advanced users who have mastered the backup and restore process. In general, we can say that Paragon successfully copes with the execution of tasks and meets the expectations of users.
Paragon seemed to me unreliable. Therefore, I do not recommend it. Completely failed to process devices using the installed 32-bit UEFI system.
Paragon Backup & Recovery is backup software. With it, you can copy any data from your computer, be it unique files, full partitions, folders, or perhaps your entire disk. Vital information should be reliably protected, and this can be achieved by frequent backups, since you cannot know when the moment will come when everything can be lost in a second. Now I am a fan of making Paragon Application. You will ask why? Just because they create great products and Paragon Recovery is no exception. Indeed, Paragon Recovery is a great software. Perhaps this is not the best option, but in general it is really amazing software. To unlock all the features of the program, you will need some time, and at the beginning it may seem a little difficult. It's nice that you can use it for free for 30 days to familiarize yourself with the program. I liked the work of the support service. You are guaranteed an immediate response. Recomend for everybody!
Paragon arrogantly claims that their Paragon Backup and Recovery program is "the most powerful free backup solution ever!" Is it really? I will try to briefly share my observations. I was pleased to learn that, firstly, the program is really free and, secondly, to receive it, they do not need registration. Everyone knows this annoying tactic that freeware providers often use to expand their email lists. Now a little about functionality. First of all, this is the backup service, so the main toolkit is concentrated in the backup functions, which, by the way, are not available from other suppliers. The software only works in the Windows environment up to the latest version, Windows 10. Other operating systems are not supported. But file systems are supported in a wide range, including NTFS, FAT, Linux. To ensure data security and prevent accidental deletion or tampering by another user, in case of his entry into your PC, the program hides backup and recovery sections. The program can not be called speed. Backup speed is not great, it should be considered when copying large amounts of data. There are several options for backing up data. The first is a standard disk backup. It will create a backup and an image of the entire disk or partition, including the operating system and any data files. The second is when there is not a full backup, but a differential one, in which only changes made since the last full backup are archived. In this case, significantly reduces the time required to complete the backup. It should also be noted that Paragon perfectly implemented data recovery function. As in the case of backup, the user has access to both a full recovery, allowing his operating system and data files to be returned to an earlier point in time, without the need to reinstall and configure applications, or fragmentary recovery, which allows him to choose whether the user wants to restore the entire disk. , individual sections or just the selected file group.
The updated version of the well-proven backup and recovery software for Windows PCs Paragon Backup & Recovery is completely free (for personal use). You can download the program on a PC running Windows 7 or later. Software activation requires a Paragon account. Free licenses are limited to one PC per account. Algorithms of the new version of the program provide faster backup and more efficient use of available disk space. Also updates affected the user interface. The new interface has become more modern and convenient. Although users with experience with previous versions of the program at first will be unusual. The program offers several types of backup. The first is that you can make a copy of all connected computer volumes. Second - you can choose to copy individual disks or partitions. The third type of backup is applicable for copying individual files and folders. The program supports the creation of recovery media, which allows users to restore backups even in the event of a Windows boot failure. Full backup recovery requires WinPE.
Paragon Backup & Recovery is a universal backup and recovery solution designed to protect your PC from disk failures. The program can prevent from irretrievable data loss and avoid the tedious procedure of reinstalling or reconfiguring programs in the event of a system failure. Installing this software is a smart solution to a visionary PC user.
There was a time when I complained about Acronis, because they had crashes and poor support. A couple of years ago, Paragon became an alternative to Acronis, which I really liked. Alas, the latest version did not work with Windows 10. For six weeks we discussed this problem with them, but without finding a solution, I returned it to Amazon. Now, based on my experience, I want to say that if you work with Windows 10, UEFI and GPT, then this product will not work for you. In the course of our long communication on the problem, I got the impression that they didn`t fully configure this software to work with Windows 10. The problems were with the services of Shadow Copy. To say that Paragon is bad I can not. I think that the program will work well after troubleshooting a problem related to errors in the Shadow Copy services of Windows 10. For the time being, I do not recommend using Paragon if you have Windows 10.
Several times I needed to copy the "C" drive, but I was not sure that I know how to use the program correctly. I wanted to clone only the operating system, not a folder with documents, a folder with images, a temporary folder, which the program wanted to clone. Every day I thought it was not in English. I think that after such words, computer fans will consider me a stupid person. But for those users who use it only occasionally, I would like it to be in simple and understandable English with good pop-up information tips. But alas, it was a technical language, not simple English. I really hope that in the next version there will be changes for the better.
Paragon Backup & Recovery Free software performs full or partial backup of data or entire disks. The backup process can be activated at the request of the user or at predetermined time intervals with a certain periodicity. The indisputable advantage of the program is its zero cost. This circumstance is very important for the majority of potential Windows users, especially beginners, who take the first steps to create backup copies of their systems.
I do not agree with the authors of previous reviews, who argue that the program is not supported. The program even has good support, is on the Paragon website and it works. I also cannot agree with the statement of some authors that the program backs up only to the main hard drive (which would really be meaningless if HD broke). Personally, I did not have any problems with backing up to an external USB-drive.
I find it difficult to agree with the person who left a comment stating that the program does not perform backups and does not work. I doubt it because the program works smoothly on all my 6 PCs. I make a backup on an external USB drive and have already attempted to restore one, and it works flawlessly. The program is better than most paid applications.
And to me, Paragon Free seemed easy enough to use to save a backup in my network. But it is not so easy to understand how to access the network for recovery. For example, icons and places to click are not immediately clear and logical. Additionally, the user cannot restore the OS from Windows. At the beginning, you must download the boot version to restore the OS. In this case, your file should be saved on the local computer. If you did not do this, you will not be able to access these files using a recovery boot disk, unless you have included drivers for the network card on your computer. As a result, the backup process itself has become simpler, which cannot be said about the backup recovery process, especially if you made a backup in a network location. I did not fully understand the whole algorithm of the recovery program.
I have not had a crash on my PC yet, so it was not possible to make sure that the backups made using this program can be used for recovery (which, however, I have no doubt). I thought it was very good, and now I use the backup feature on a monthly basis. The backup process is not fast, it usually takes several hours to make a backup. From the oddities of the program, I can note the following: if you make differential backups (faster), the program determines how much space a full backup takes and warns you that you do not have enough space, even if there is enough space for a difference.
The latest version of Paragon's Backup & Recovery Free can not fail to note the changes that have occurred for the better. Thus, the updated user interface, in confirmation of the manufacturer's announcements, has really become intuitive and supplemented with new features. The software stuffing has also changed. Improved basic functions to fully protect your PC data by creating backup copies of individual files, partitions, and the entire Windows system. And in case it is also necessary to restore the data in WinPE. After a simple system setup by the user, the backup process will be carried out automatically, in the required amount and with a certain periodicity. In this case, the user can initiate archiving of only changes that have occurred since the last backup (full or sectoral).
If in a nutshell we formulate the differences between the two free versions of backup and recovery programs, such as Macrium Reflect Free and Paragon Backup & Recovery, for novice home users, then they are not that great. To be fair, it should be noted that both programs are good and you can equally well use them to back up entire disks or volumes. Paragon program, unlike Macrium Reflect Free, supports incremental backups. In my opinion, you should start with a solution from Paragon, not Macrium Reflect Free, if you have problems with disk space or if you sometimes need customized backup options for backing up some folders and files or encryption.
It's just awful. I lost my Windows as a result of my backup with Paragon Backup & Recovery Free. I've tried to copy my Windows so I could later run it in a Virtual Box, but the file got "Damaged" for some reason. "Thank you", Paragon.
Congratulations, you added review!
