Aggressive malware protection
I like to try a new (new for me) program. It’s like a hobby. I am registered in the forum where simple guys like me share experiences. There was a positive post about Rogue Killer Anti-Malware. I had never heard of this before, that is why I had to try it. It has good free functionality (nothing extra), which is enough for me. But if you like a stylish design then this program is not for you. It has a fine protection, finds hard threats, but there were times when he missed the simple threat…
- Cool logo
- Well-functioning protection
- Can miss a simple threat
- I don’t like the Interface.
RogueKiller Anti-Malware is a program that in my opinion is more suitable for experienced users. In addition to the "basic" functions of such programs, a file check in VirusTotal and a very detailed log are available here. The log contains information about most of the operations that the program performed, which files were checked and what action was taken for the detected threats. All this information makes it very easy to analyze the state of system protection. For those who do not like this program - use other free scanners.
- Build-in VirusTotal checking
I am sure that my files are always in safe
RogueKiller is a simple virus protection tool that works for any Windows user. It effectively removes suspicious files and often finds threats that other programs have missed. I regularly scan my laptop with RogueKiller and I am sure that my files are always in safe. But RogueKiller has one flaw. He (at least in my case) often has false positives, so you need to check the files before clean them.
- Remove threats
- False positive
I waited for 2 hours until the scan is completed
After the scan was complete, Rogue showed window with 9 detected threats. It was possible to apply automatic cleaning, but I decided to make sure that there were no false detections. To see the details, I clicked on one of the entries that moved me to the file details window. And there problem was appear. "Back" button in this window was not provided. I waited for 2 hours until the scan is completed and I do not want to lose 2 hours again because there is bad interface.
- Interface bugs
Not bad efficiency for free software
RogueKiller has a user-friendly interface that is similar to other antispyware software. But its main feature is the sorting of detected threats according to their status. Red is for viruses, and orange is for suspicious programs or PUA. This allows me to make a quick decision about clearing an obvious threat. Questionable applications can be moved to quarantine if you are not sure that they must be deleted. The disadvantage of this program is a long (compared to other programs) scanning, but this is normal for a free program.
- Color differentiating for threats
- Long scanning
Roguekiller is a very cheap program if compare it with similar software. At the beggining, I used the free version because there was available basic detecting and removing viruses. But then I decided to test the paid version, which was distributed according to the freemium model. In the personal version, I received additional protection against rootkits, scan customization and the ability to use the command line to repair a damaged system. There were other features, but that`s three were most important for me.
- Free version
RogueKiller is a modern solution against viruses and spyware. The scan module is very customizable, you can exclude standard scan areas or add additional ones to list. Any launched scan can be paused if it is necessary to free up system resources. I especially liked the ability to upload suspicious files to VirusTotal using the program menu. During the whole time of use, RogueKiller remains stable in operation and doesn`t use a large amount of system resources.
- On-demand scan
