How to download from Dailymotion

To download Dailymotion videos there are a couple of options: web services, browser extensions, desktop programs, mobile apps. Let’s skip fancy introductions nobody reads anyway and bring out several examples in that same order. We’ve taken a single video to test how different tools compare.

Option 1: Desktop applications

A video editor, DVD converter, screen recorder, and, surely enough, a video downloader program VideoProc is quite powerful. Default output file format you get is MP4 and highest resolution is 1080p. Save videos from DailyMotion, YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Flickr, and more. Save whole playlists at once. Use it on Windows or macOS. Pay a few extra bucks ($30 for 1 year license for 1 device) to get rid of 5-minute trial limitation and get full technical assistance, plus 30-day money back policy.

Dailymotion, BlipTV, Vimeo, VideoBash, LiveLeak, FunnyOrDie, Veevr, Adobe TV, YouTube – you name it, AllMyTube will do the job. It can also record a video from a PC screen in 30 FPS, and transfer files to iPhone, iPad or Android devices. Furthermore, it can act as a media converter: videos into MP4, AVI, MOV, etc.; audio into MP3, WAV, MKA, etc. AllMyTube is for Windows and Mac, and costs $19 per year. 

Initially free, though with a limit of downloads, Video Keeper offers a full version for $50 – to get unlimited downloads, plus screen recorder, converter and some other functions. Without sign-up one can only save 2 videos. Of course, to keep up with competitors, VK supports not just one service: YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, TED, Metacafe, Lynda, Veoh, Vevo, etc., and 4K goes without saying. In addition, it can optimize videos for devices like iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, PSP, Xbox. 

Aicoosoft Video Converter downloads video and audio from over 1,000 sites, in any format, including HD and 4K. If different subtitles are available for the video, you can choose which ones must be downloaded. With the Multiple Download feature, users can add video / audio to the queue, or download entire playlists. The trial version isn’t limited in features, but you can download only 1 video from Dailymotion or another source.

This software works with DVDs, MOV, AVI, MP4, MPEG, M4V and other formats. Aicoosoft Video Converter also includes a full featured video converter, media compression and screen recording utilities. A special hardware acceleration algorithm is available to speed up workflows.

Option 2: Web services 

All in One Downloader, or AIO, is as simple as it gets. Copy a Dailymotion video link, go to the website, paste the link and click Download. Select quality (resolution) and save a clip. Fast, stable and free – what’s not to like? The maximum quality it allows is 2160 pixels, and possible output formats are MP4, M4A, 3GP, GIF, JPG, PNG.

Another web-based downloader of video and audio. It follows the same sequence (paste a link, select format, click Convert). The difference is that there is an extra  option – to edit videos. However, the editing here is basically just down to trimming. Available formats to save videos in: 3GP, MP4, MKV, F4V, WEBM, as well as audio: AAC, M4A, MP3 (128 , 256, 320 kbps). Frequent issue: page refreshing to Home when clicking Convert without editing.   

A free service to download Dailymotion videos, that comes both as a website and a mobile app (Google Play). In the latter, choose Other Platform when saving a video and then paste a link. The limit of resolution is again 2160p which is typical, as well as media formats – MP4, M4A, 3GP.

Option 3: Browser extensions

After installing VLC Chrome extension, as you visit a page with videos, you can add it to a playlist right away (My videos). Now it is possible to watch it, save it, or delete. When downloading the original quality is preserved. All the usual formats too – FLV, MP4, AVI, ASF, MPEG, etc. Also, video titles stay the same or users can edit it before saving, which is a tiny nice bonus.

Visit Dailymotion, open any video and notice that the little arrow icon above it becomes active in blue color. This means now you can save it or add to playlist. The drawback is no ability to select resolution – videos always are of maximum original quality. A little test proved high efficiency: 10 out of 10 videos were obtained. Although, sometimes page refresh might be required.

This one is for several browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox. FVD allows to download Dailymotion video and audio files, as well as any other media service, e.g. Facebook, Vimeo, Veoh, Blip, Metacafe. The principle is typical: go to a video, see the extension become active, check the options, save. The highest quality one might get is 4K (3840 x 2160). 

Summary

Option 4: Mobile apps

A little Android app with a self-explanatory title. Get it in a phone, launch it, then go to a Dailymotion video, click Share (or copy the URL). A video will automatically appear in the app with resolution options and download. Also videos can be viewed in this app. Stable, fast and direct. On the other hand, there are plenty of ads.

This is essentially a web browser with the ability to save videos from Dailymotion, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Tumblr, etc. No actions are required at all, except clicking the Download icon. A great benefit is not losing progress when connection breaks off. File manager and video player functions are a fine addition as well. To remove pop-up ads you’d have to pay $2.  

Similar to Nova, this app uses a browser. This is quite handy: you just visit a page with video, play it and get the download option. Choose video file resolution, the limit is 2160p (4K). Also, besides video, one can save images and music. Stable yet not the most effective app.
